Surgery is necessary for many to continue to live a healthy life. After the surgery, however, some people experience seemingly inexplainable pain. Here are the most common types, and how to deal with them.

Movement/Joint Pain

This may be felt when trying to do everyday activities such as standing up, walking, or even coughing. Aside from medication, relief from this pain may come a variety of options. These include applying heat or cold to the affected areas, staying well hydrated, as well as prolonged rest.

Muscle Pain

Muscle pain is a result of being positioned on the operating table for a long period of time. This may be felt in the shoulders, neck or chest. This pain is best dealt with by using light stretching, massaging the affected areas, or heat therapy.

Throat Pain

After surgery, you may experience pain in the throat from prolonged inhalation of anesthesia. This can be in the form of dryness, or just all around soreness. The best treatment for this pain is to constantly be consuming warming liquid such as tea or water, preferably with honey. Throat lozenges and chloraseptic sprays can also provide relief to the throat.
