Dehydration can cause a lot of unpleasant side effects. It’s important to make sure you drink enough water everyday to help your body function properly. Typically, it’s suggested that you should drink about 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight. For example, a 150lbs individual should drink around 75oz of water everyday (about 9-10 cups of water). This is just for guidance, each individual varies. As long as you make drinking water a priority throughout the day you can improve your daily health and avoid these unpleasant side effects.

1. Muscle pain and Joint Pain

When you don’t consume enough water throughout the day, your muscles and joints will often start to cramp. Drinking enough water will help lubricate your joints, and help pump water into your muscles minimizing discomfort and cramping.

2. Dizziness and Nausea

Lack of water makes it difficult for your blood to flow throughout your body which can cause dizziness. The dizziness caused from dehydration can cause nausea which  can lead to vomiting. Everyone should drink plenty of water and electrolytes to avoid feeling nauseous.

3. Dry mouth and thirst

One of the most obvious side effects of dehydration is dry mouth and thirst. If you’re thirsty - drink some water.

4. Dry Skin

Dehydration can also lead to dry skin. Drinking water and applying lotion can help treat this side effect.

5. Irregular Bowel Movements

Lack of water will cause your urine to become a dark color and cause unusual and infrequent urination. Dehydration can also cause constipation.  When you don’t get enough water, your body has a difficult time cycling waste throughout your body.

Making water a priority throughout your day will benefit your overall health and minimize these unpleasant symptoms.
